CHAPTER TWELVE

I tried to concentrate on cards but found myself constantly scanning the area in search of Greg and Jamie. I was itching to talk to her.

An hour later—during which I managed to lose two hundred dollars, thanks to my distraction—I finally spotted Greg on the other side of the poker room half-wall. He waved when he caught my eye.

I stood up, studying the pretty redhead standing next to him as I approached. Jamie looked exactly like her picture on the bachelor party T-shirts, minus the engaging smile. Right now her lips were mashed together, and there was a wary squint to her eyes. No doubt she was wondering who this strange woman her fiancé was dragging her to meet could possibly be.

I smiled to show I posed no threat. “You made it.”

“Jamie, meet Tiffany,” Greg said. “Tiffany is the person I was telling you about, the one looking into Randy’s murder.”

Jamie peered at me with cool, green eyes. “Greg said you can read minds.”

I snorted. “Not—”

“She sure can,” Greg jumped in. “She saw the whole crime scene with Randy.”

“Everything?” Jamie asked.

“Not everything,” I said. “But I saw enough.”

“Huh.”

“How was your flight?” I asked Jamie.

“Fine.”

“Did you have any trouble getting a last-minute ticket?”

“Nope.”

Okay, so Jamie apparently favored one-word answers. I tried a more open-ended question. “What made you decide to visit?”

“I missed Greg.” As though to prove her sincerity, she slipped her hand into his and brought it up to her lips, brushing a kiss across his knuckles.

Greg gazed at her, a goofy smile on his face. He was clearly smitten.

The googly eyes continued on the ride up the elevator. I kept my own eyes on the panel that displayed our current floor number, swallowing my impulse to shout ‘Get a room!’ After all, Greg’s room was exactly where we were headed.

His suite looked more spacious in the daylight, but Jamie didn’t seem interested in his accommodations. She only had eyes for Greg.

He let go of her suitcase handle, wrapped his arms around her waist, and pressed a long, hungry kiss to her lips.

I squelched a groan. Did they really have to do this now?

I tapped my foot against the carpet while I waited for them to end the lip-lock. When they failed to do so after a respectable amount of time had passed, it became clear I would need to intervene.

“So,” I said, feeling like a prim schoolmarm attempting to wrangle her unruly classroom into some semblance of
